IPP-Scan, the network scanning tool by Papiosaur, moves to version 1.6 on MorphOS Storage. This release fixes the searchable PDF (“PDF image+text”) that produced no text layer, and now folds the OCR's typographic punctuation (curly apostrophes and quotes, dashes) to its ASCII equivalent: words like “aujourd'hui” become searchable and copyable again.

IPP-Scan is a native application that lets you scan from an eSCL/AirScan-compatible network scanner, without any driver. It automatically discovers scanners via mDNS/Bonjour and detects their capabilities: source selection (flatbed or automatic document feeder), duplex, resolution, colour mode and image adjustments. It offers a live preview with rulers and an area selector, as well as several output formats (JPEG, PDF, searchable PDF thanks to the bundled Tesseract OCR).

The interface is available in 15 languages. IPP-Scan requires MorphOS 3.20 or later and an eSCL/AirScan-compatible network scanner. Registration is shared with IPP-Print; preview remains available in the demo version, while saving is reserved for registered users.

SDK-Explorer updated

Good news for MorphOS developers: SDK-Explorer, by Papiosaur, has just been updated to version 1.4 on MorphOS Storage. This tool lets you easily read the contents of the MorphOS SDK from a single interface.

Built natively in C/MUI, SDK-Explorer lets you read autodocs, source code examples, header files and FD files in a three-panel interface. It features an autodoc browser for the System, Lua, MUI, MCC and Reggae libraries, syntax highlighting for .c and .h files (keywords, strings, preprocessor, line numbers) powered by Scintilla.mcc, plus text search within the current document. This release is compatible with the new MorphOS SDK (3.20).

neatvi and nextvi updated

Fans of old-school text editing are in for a treat: two editors from the vi/ex family, neatvi and nextvi, have just been updated on MorphOS Storage by Stefan Haubenthal, to versions 19 and 5.3 respectively.

neatvi, by Ali Gholami Rudi, is a compact vi clone built for editing UTF-8 text. It supports syntax highlighting, bidirectional languages (right-to-left such as Arabic, Persian or Hebrew), keymaps and multi-window editing, all in a lightweight, minimalist spirit.

nextvi, developed by Kyryl Melekhin, is a rewrite of neatvi: it keeps its soul (bidirectional UTF-8 text editing in the terminal) while bringing many performance improvements, fixes and extra features. An excellent choice for anyone who likes a fast, no-frills vi.

Stylos 1.8, IPP-Print 1.5, IPP-Scan 1.2 available

Papiosaur updates his native MorphOS office suite: the Stylos word processor (version 1.8), the IPP-Print printing utility (version 1.5) and the brand-new IPP-Scan (version 1.2), all available on MorphOS Storage. All three require MorphOS 3.20 and are translated into 15 languages.

Stylos is a WYSIWYG Unicode (UTF-8) editor: RTF import/export, ODT and DOCX import, PDF export, image insertion and pasting, styles, formatting, find and replace, unlimited undo and spell checking. Version 1.8 overhauls the print dialog: a tabbed layout with a live preview, several pages per sheet, ink levels and printer status.

IPP-Print prints external files to IPP/AirPrint printers without any driver: drop a file, pick the printer, print. It handles PDF and PostScript, images (JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, IFF) and plain text. Version 1.5 detects and rotates landscape PDFs, handles mixed portrait/landscape documents page by page and improves preview rendering.

IPP-Scan is the scan counterpart of IPP-Print: it scans from a network scanner using eSCL/AirScan with no driver. Automatic discovery (mDNS), per-source capability detection (flatbed or ADF feeder, duplex), resolution, colour mode and output format (JPEG or PDF) selection, quick preview and scan-area selector. Requires an eSCL/AirScan scanner.

BBS enthusiasts, rejoice: MTerm (version 0.20), a terminal client by n3, is back on MorphOS Storage.

Built natively for MorphOS, MTerm connects to classic bulletin board systems and supports ANSI, Amiga and Commodore 64 display modes. This 0.19 release adds new bitmap fonts and fixes Commodore PETSCII rendering, adds a title bar and scroll wheel support in the buffer window, shows the elapsed connection time in the title bar and adds a local beep. It also fixes the -X and -T shortcuts during active sessions, extends copy and paste to menus, lets you define your preferred launch mode and brings various GUI refinements. TORCS is a 3D racing car simulator featuring many cars and tracks. This 1.3.9 release adds OpenAL/SDL2 audio driver support and fixes the crash-on-exit issue. Image2PDF converts images to PDF and back again. It supports many formats (JPEG, PNG, BMP, IFF/ILBM, GIF, TIFF and PCX) and offers several output formats (A3, A4, A5, B4, B5, Legal, Letter, Executive, US, Comm10 or image size).
