FinalBurn Neo: BeWorld gives it a MUI interface, and updates SDL2

BeWorld updates his MorphOS port of FinalBurn Neo 1.0.0.3, the first update since October 2024. This multi-system emulator (arcade machines, consoles and home computers) focuses more on playability than MAME does, and now recognises more than 29,000 ROMs. The big news is a native MUI interface, faster, which replaces the old one with its menus and filters.

OpenGL rendering is improved and an Overlay renderer appears. BeWorld also fixed many drivers on big-endian processors, fixes sent to the main project. Cheats, title pictures and previews are included; you only need to put your zipped ROMs in the matching drawer (roms/arcade, roms/nes...). Requires MorphOS 3.20 and the SDL2 2.32.11 libraries. Free, a 17 MB archive.

The SDL2 2.32.11 package is released at the same time: sdl2.library 53.23, with updated SDL2_image 2.8.13, SDL2_mixer 2.8.2 and SDL2_ttf 2.25.0, plus SDL2_net and SDL2_gfx. It offers OpenGL, Overlay and software renderers, gamepad support through sensors.library with hot-plugging, and installs with a double-click. Requires MorphOS 3.20, and the 3.20 SDK for developers; a 17 MB archive.

Lorraine 0.7: 68030, FPU and JIT compiler for the A1200

Papiosaur releases Lorraine 0.7, the Amiga emulator written from scratch for MorphOS, the day after 0.6. The A1200 can now get a 68030 and a 68882 FPU, which some 3D demos need, and, at maximum CPU speed, a JIT compiler that translates 68k code into PowerPC on the fly: the emulated processor runs two to three times faster in 3D games such as Breathless. HAM screens on the A1200 are also drawn faster.

Multi-disk games get easier: .lha and .lzx archives spread over DF0: to DF3: like .zip ones, and automatic disk swap slips the next disk into DF0: when a program asks for it. The Library page lists floppies, hard disks and WHDLoad games, each from a folder of your choice. WHDLoad, included with Bert Jahn's permission, and SoftKicker now come in the Third-Party drawer. Full screen keeps the picture's proportions at the monitor's resolution.

The Kickstart ROMs must be copied in by yourself. Requires MorphOS 3.20 and sdl2.library for gamepads. Free, a 7 MB archive.

less 710: the file pager gets updated

Stefan Haubenthal updates his MorphOS port of less 710, Mark Nudelman's well-known pager, a more flexible cousin of more that lets you browse a text file forwards and backwards from the Shell. This build relies on POSIX regular expressions and also provides lessecho; the archive also holds an AmigaOS 68k build.

Requires termcap.library. Free, a 1 MB archive.

EdgeSnap 0.41: more precise corners

Michele Dipace releases EdgeSnap 0.41, the commodity that tiles a window to half or a quarter of the screen when you drag it against an edge or a corner. A quarter is now obtained by pushing the pointer into the corner itself, anywhere else along a side edge giving the half; the "Corner size" setting brings back larger corners. The top edge is the screen's own title bar, so a window already sitting at the top is no longer maximised the moment it is touched.

On MorphOS, the first installation turns on the system option that lets windows move off-screen, and says so; the preferences show it as "Windows can move off-screen". It is still a beta, released under the MIT licence; a 279 KB archive.

TelegramAmiga 0.0.95

Michele Dipace releases TelegramAmiga 0.0.95, the native Telegram client that speaks MTProto straight from the machine. Downloads and uploads now keep several requests in flight instead of waiting for each reply: on real MorphOS hardware, a 4 MB file comes in at 1.35-1.6 MB/s and goes up at about 550 KB/s, against 210 KB/s in September. A "Full-size photos" option in the Settings menu opens pictures at their largest size, and "Save photo as..." writes the original.

Long messages with accented letters are no longer cut short, a photo with a long caption no longer fails once uploaded, and photos keep their colours after iconifying or switching to a dedicated screen. The program now calls itself "Unofficial Telegram Amiga", as Telegram's terms require. Still alpha, released under the MIT licence; a 523 KB archive.

AmiArcadia 36.70 and MCE 15.63

Stefan Haubenthal releases the MorphOS ports of two programs by James Jacobs. AmiArcadia 36.70, the Signetics-based machines emulator (Emerson Arcadia 2001, Interton VC 4000, 1970s-80s micros and coin-ops), now emulates the ETI-645 Tasman Turtle robot on PIPBUG machines. It recognises three more Japanese homebrews on the Arcadia, gains infinite lives and invincibility trainers for Windworld, and no longer hangs when the RetroAchievements login is cancelled. The Greek translation is up to date.

MCE 15.63, the editor of characters, saved games, levels and high-score tables for 126 classic Amiga games, no longer crashes on quitting after the graphics editor has been used. In Demon's Winter, a character's "standing" field becomes editable.

Both require ReAction and are open source. 11 MB archive for AmiArcadia, 5 MB for MCE.

ACE 1.27: the Amstrad CPC emulator moves to shaders

Philippe 'OffseT' Rimauro releases ACE 1.27, his Amstrad CPC and CPC+ emulator written from scratch for MorphOS, the first release since January 2024. OpenGL display, present in the code but never enabled until now, now takes advantage of the MorphOS shaders, with a dedicated shader for each screen type (colour, green or grey); it needs an R300 GPU or better, and bilinear smoothing takes over otherwise. The render engine can be changed on the fly from a menu. Each PSG sound channel can be muted on its own from the main window, and the title bar shows the elapsed time in fast forward.

On the emulation side, VSync handling of CRTC 2 and the update of registers 12 and 13 of CRTC 0 are fixed, and the Sonic demo by NoRecess no longer freezes on CPC+. Developers get AREXX commands to extract and inject shaders, MagicBeacon notifications when video recording starts and stops, and several fixes in the breakpoint windows and the Z80 disassembler. Plugins can now store their state in snapshots.

The ACEpansion plugins are released at the same time: storage and expansion cards (Albireo and a second Albireo, M4 Board, X-Mass, Dandanator, Mirage Imager, Nova), sound (PlayCity, Play2CPC, Willy for OPL3 and MIDI, Amdrum, DK'Tronics, SSA-1 and Techni-Musique speech synthesizers), MultiPlay joystick ports, and for developers CycleCounter plus a newcomer, LiveMemoryMap, which shows the memory map live. Each one is installed by copying its archive into the ACE drawer; some require ACE 1.27.

Requires MorphOS 3.20, a 700 MHz CPU (1 GHz for the CPC+). Free, a 2 MB archive for the emulator.

Lorraine 0.6: faster and more comfortable

Papiosaur releases Lorraine 0.6, the Amiga emulator written from scratch for MorphOS, the day after 0.5. Emulation is faster, notably on AGA screens full of sprites, and WHDLoad games load faster from their .lha or .lzx archive. The A1200 can run at maximum CPU speed, the mouse speed can be set, and the settings panel attaches to the left of the emulation window and can be made much narrower. The window title shows what the Amiga started from (DF0:, hard disk or WHDLoad).

As for fixes, interlaced pictures no longer shake, some AGA screens are no longer shifted or garbled, WHDLoad games with a NewIcon start and the mouse pointer no longer runs wild in some games. The Kickstart ROMs must be copied in by yourself. Requires MorphOS 3.20 and sdl2.library for gamepads. Free, a 6 MB archive.

MorphOS-CDPlayer 1.4 gains stability

Bernd Assenmacher releases MorphOS-CDPlayer 1.4, his audio CD and WAV file player written with Hollywood. This maintenance release makes the program more stable: buttons are enabled and disabled according to what is possible, the Scan button no longer causes an error and the displayed status is correct again.

The guide is updated. It is free, and the author welcomes donations. A 1 MB archive.

Papio-Design 1.23: a cleaned-up archive

Papiosaur releases Papio-Design 1.23, the graphics suite that brings together Folios (page layout), Graphos (vector drawing), Momento (photos) and Pixelios (pixel painting). This version only fixes the archive: the 1.22 one held by mistake the files of a Momento test, a drawer of thumbnails and a picture catalog. If you installed 1.22, you can delete the Momento/cache/PAPIOSAUR-LINUX drawer, which only holds thumbnails of our test pictures. As a reminder, 1.22 brought Pixelios to 1.3, which opens pictures up to 8192 pixels a side.

Requires MorphOS 3.20. It is shareware: each program can be tried as a demo, €59.90 for the whole pack, future updates included. A 26 MB archive.
